UTILIZATION OF LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT ORGANIC COMPOUNDS BY BACTERIONEUSTON AND BACTERIOPLANKTON ISOLATED FROM COASTAL LAKE DOŁGIE WIELKIE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Utilization of various amino acids and carbohydrates by neustonic and planktonie bacteria isolated from coastal Lake Dołgie Wielkie was determined. The highest percentage of the bacteria inhabiting this lake used proline and glutaminę. Considerably higher percentage of neustonic bacteria (FL, SL) than planktonie (SUB) bacteria in their metabolic processes prefered the tested amino acids. The highest percentage of isolated bacteria utilized fructose and glucose. The majority of tested carbohydrates actively used neustonic bacteria isolated from surface layer (SL) than film layer (FL) and subsurface layer (SUB). There were no major differences in the intensity of assimilation of amino acids and carbohydrates between bacteria inhabiting particular parts of Lake Dołgie Wielkie.
